We talked briefly about behaviorism and Skinner’s rejection of free will. There are generally two responses when people are confronted with the possibility that they can neither think for themselves nor make their own decisions: depression and defiance. Depression is boring, so let’s be defiant. The challenge is to identify an occasion on which you (or a friend, family member, person in the news) exhibited free will. Try to make a strong case for why the behavior you describe contradicts Skinner’s rejection of free will so that the rest of us can ponder on what Skinner would say to refute your argument.
