Welcome!

An Amherst education is at once timeless and urgently needed. Amherst is not simply a preparation for professional life. It is a preparation for your child’s lifelong journey of learning—exhilarating and surprising, rewarding and vast. When your child arrived at Amherst, they joined a close-knit, thriving community devoted to excellence in the liberal arts. Parents and families are an integral part of that community.

Events

Amherst families are invited to campus each fall for Family Weekend, and to all of the college’s on-campus and regional events that are open to the public. While some COVID related precautions may exist, our intent is to have in-person events both on-campus and throughout our regions. In addition, families are often invited to live-stream campus events such as lectures, literary and sporting events and some performances. You can learn more about upcoming events from our events calendar and by reading e-News, the email newsletter sent to all Amherst community members every other week (parents and families included!).

Convocation is the first formal gathering of the first-year students, at which the President and the faculty, all in academic regalia, welcome the students to the College. Families are welcome to attend.

New Students and Families

Information for students and families in the Class of 2026 and incoming transfer students is available on the Information for New Families page. Information for the families of the Class of 2027 will be available in July, 2023.
