I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in June, 1951, and entered the USAF a month later as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps. In 1954 I married Doris Mitchell and was almost immediately sent to France as Administrator of a small dispensary.

I returned to the U.S.A. in 1957 to attend graduate school and received a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration at the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. Then came four years at the USAF Hospital at Andrews AFB, MD, as Administrator of Professional Services. Next I was assigned to the USAF Hospital at McClellan AFB, CA, in 1963 as Administrator, then to Hickam AFB, HI, responsible for the acquisition and placement of 21 modular, relocatable medical facilities from Thailand and Vietnam in the south to Japan in the north. From 1968 to 1972 I was assigned to the office of the USAF Surgeon General, Facilities Division, and from 1972 to 1976 was Administrator of the USAF Hospital, Langley AFB, VA. I retired from the Air Force in 1980 after serving- four years as Administrator of the USAF Academy Hospital, CO.

Returning to civilian life, I was employed by Ohio State University from 1980 to '1990 and worked on health services facilities planning. I have some very satisfying memories of my role in planning and construction of a $60 million Cancer Institute and a $15 million psychiatric hospital. Now I’m retired. Doris and I are happy to watch my three sons build their career moves: Jeffrey, a psychotherapist; David, 1st Assistant Attorney General in Colorado; and Robert, an architect in Arizona.
