You are invited to virtual LGBTQ+ Connections! LGBTQ+ alumni will join current students to discuss past, present and future Amherst experiences—where did we come from? How did Amherst change us, and how will we bring this light to the world? This virtual gathering will allow alumni from all corners of the world to share their stories.
Two alumni, Chelsea G. Tejada '14 (she/her) and Kate Sisk '14 (she/he/they), will begin the conversation by discussing how Amherst brought them together and how it shaped their paths after graduation. This event will be moderated by Sam Young ’23 (they/he), the chair of oSTEM at Amherst College and a biochemistry-biophysics major.
Chelsea is a Staff Attorney at the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Project, where she focuses on using constitutional law to expand access to abortion for historically marginalized communities. She is currently involved in numerous lawsuits challenging state and territorial abortion restrictions, including Whole Woman's Health v. Jackson, a federal court challenge to Texas's bounty-hunter six-week abortion ban; Raidoo v. Camacho, a lawsuit to restore abortion access to people in Guam; and Planned Parenthood Southwest v. Ohio Department of Health, a state court case under Ohio's constitution challenging medically unnecessary restrictions that target the state's abortion clinics. In addition, Chelsea leads the Project's efforts to improve access to reproductive health services for immigrants in U.S. custody. Chelsea holds a B.A. from Amherst College and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, where she was a Public Interest Scholar.
Kate is a professional stand-up comedian, amateur drag king and retired soccer player, originally from Massachusetts. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Kate is an alumn of UCB’s Harold Night, a contributing writer for The Onion and a recent participant in the NBC Late Night Writers Workshop. Kate’s stand up comedy about life as a gender-nonconforming person and former member of the Puerto Rico Women’s National Soccer Team has earned appearances in the HBO Women In Comedy Festival and the Finals of the Boston Comedy Festival. Kate is also the co-host of the popular podcast, We’re Having Gay Sex. Kate is represented by AGI Entertainment Media & Management.
This discussion will be followed by breakout sessions with an opportunity for LGBTQ+ alumni and students to connect. We hope to see you there!
Students who register will receive a gift bag in their mailbox in advance. Alumni will receive a thank you gift in the mail following the event.
