AMHERST, Mass.-The Amherst College Orchestra, Mark Lane Swanson, music director, will present its annual Homecoming Weekend concert on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8:30 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. In a program it will repeat on tour in Los Angeles on Jan. 4, the orchestra will perform Giuseppe Verdi's Overture to the opera La Forza del Destino, Antonin Dvorak's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor, Op. 104, and the Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms. Hartford native and Janos Starker protege Jan Jiri Kolar will guest as soloist in the Dvorak.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and are available at the door the night of the concert; the concert is free to faculty, staff and students with an Amherst ID.
