The Amherst College Choral Society, joined by the Amherst Symphony Orchestra,  performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's  Requiem. Conducted by Dr. Arianne Abela, Lecturer in Music and Director of the College Choral program, the performance also features four accomplished professional soloists well-known to local audiences: soprano Sherezade Panthaki, mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken, tenor William Hite and bass-baritone Sumner Thompson.

Written by Mozart in his final days, the Requiem continues to captivate audiences with its dramatic and moving musical synthesis of fear, lamentation and acceptance. The work was left unfinished at the composer's death, but will be performed in a version completed by his student Franz Süssmayr.

The concert opens with a performance of the first movement of Beethoven's violin concerto, with Amherst College senior Zhihan Xu '24 as soloist. Mark Lane Swanson, the ASO's music director, will lead. FREE. Open to the public.
