In Big Birthday, Hosford's second picture book and sequel to Big Bouffant, independent and confident Annabelle is determined to have a birthday party that stands out from the rest, and the moon seems like the perfect spot. But wearing space suits and hosting a party in a place with no atmosphere create some unexpected challenges.
Although Annabelle's grand plans sometimes mean trouble for the young girl, she maintains her creativity, individuality and spirit. Through whimsical rhyme and textural illustrations, Hosford's book conveys to children the importance of honoring their true selves through their own creative visions. Annabelle provides young children an accessible example of how resiliency and individuality can create great results, even if they were outside the original vision.
