A Boost for Native Texts, Scholars

Two grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation recognize and enhance the College’s stature as a destination for Native American studies. The grants arrive at a time of growth—in the number of students pursuing this interdisciplinary field, and in indigenous student enrollments.

Black Men of Amherst, 1877–1883

Staffers in Frost Library’s Archives and Special Collections seem to uncover an untold story every day. While digitizing materials for Amherst’s 200th birthday, for example, they learned about some notable 19th-century grads.

A partnership between the town’s Senior Center and Amherst College student groups brought elders to campus to offer “flawless advice.”


Out of the Folger, Into the Kitchen

Nine Amherst students scanned, transcribed and studied a 1740 vintage recipe book from the Folger Shakespeare Library—then cooked a few favorites from the mysterious Mrs. Knight. You can test out a recipe too. Read more.
