We have recently launched a new app for the Amherst College community: Amherst College Safety provides each community member with safety tools and resources to feel secure and connected while on campus.

The safety and wellbeing of our community is of paramount importance to us. Upon the recommendation of the Director of Emergency Management and the Executive Director of Safety/Chief of Police, the Campus Safety Advisory Committee (CSAC) has endorsed a new addition to our campus safety resources—the Amherst College Safety app. This innovative app is designed to empower you with a powerful safety tool right at your fingertips.

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play today.

Key Features of the Amherst College Safety App

  • Panic Button: The app's main feature is a panic button that, when activated, will immediately notify Amherst College Police Department (ACPD) of your name and location and prompt you to call ACPD to provide more information as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • ACPD Chat: Similar to text-to-911, you can chat with an ACPD dispatcher when their activity volume allows. In the event of a true emergency, a phone call to the campus emergency number (413-542-2111) is always the best choice.
  • Friend Walk: Allow a friend or colleague to follow your location on a map as you walk. In the event you stray from your intended route and your selected contact is unable to reach you, they can contact ACPD.
  • WorkAlone: Schedule safety check-ins when you're working alone, such as in a laboratory late at night. The app will prompt you to check-in at regular intervals. In the event you miss a self check-in, your selected contact will be notified.
  • Social Escape: Schedule a phone call to be placed to your phone at a predetermined time, providing you with a convenient excuse to leave an uncomfortable or dangerous situation.
  • Campus Resources: Access important campus safety resources, emergency procedures, and contact information directly through the app.

We are committed to providing you with the resources you need to feel secure while pursuing your academic and professional goals. Should you have any questions about Amherst College Safety, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Director of Emergency Management, Matthew Hart at marhart@amherst.edu.

Stay safe, stay connected, and thank you for being an essential part of our community.
