Summer Science Program at Amherst College

For more than 30 years Amherst has offered a three-week Summer Science Program for a small group of incoming students with interests in medicine, biology, neuroscience or chemistry. Today it is part of the invitation-only Summer Bridge Program. Each participant has classes in Calculus with faculty from the Department of Math and Statistics. Students  have a choice between Biology and Chemistry, working  in science laboratories with Dr. Christine Bowers and Dr. Richmond Ampiah-Bonney of the biology and chemistry departments. Students will also have a writing seminar and a course entitled Introduction to the Liberal Arts, taught by a STEM faculty member. Former Summer Bridge students offer support as tutors. Through this program, students get to know faculty mentors and receive academic advising in the pre-med track, math, and sciences.
