Known Issues & Retired Plugins - Summer 2023

Known Issues

  • The Buttons course format is causing issues and errors with course editing, and has been disabled for use in new courses. If faculty need to edit a course currently using Buttons, they will want to switch to a different format. If the plugin gets updated in the future we will enable it for current courses.
  • The Tiles format has some minor compatibility issues with the new version.
    • The left navigation sidebar will only appear to instructors with editing mode turned on, otherwise it's hidden.
    • This format does not currently support indenting activities.
    • After editing a section, you will be taken to the top of the course page instead of the section you were working in.

Retired Plugins

The following plugins needed to be retired as they had not been updated for security or compatibility in several years.

  • Fordson Theme- the main difference faculty will notice with the new "Boost" theme is the lack of a course banner image (however, these were only used in 30% of courses anyway). Faculty can still add a course image to display in the Dashboard and on their Moodle site- here's now!
  • Quiz- Download all Essay Question submissions option
    • In the new version you can have timed assignments, which is a better option anyway for assessments where you want students to upload a file and have a time limit.
    • If this plugin gets updated in the future we will certainly re-install it.
  • iClicker block and registration plugin has been deprecated. Faculty wishing to use iClickers should please email askIT@amherst.edu. Grades previously imported from iClicker activities remain in Moodle.
  • iPal- instructors who used iPal have been notified and their content exported. For live polling we suggest Google Forms (which now shows live results charts) or Poll Everywhere.
  • Pearson MyLab and Mastering- There is an updated integration for Pearson available. To add it to your course, add a new External Tool and pick Pearson LTI 1.3 from the preconfigured tools menu. Old Moodle sites will no longer display the MyLab & Mastering links or block, but you can still access the course info via Pearson, and any grades from those activities are retained in Moodle. More info here about linking Moodle & Pearson.
